HOW TO GET YOUR STORY PUBLISHED IN KOREAN GAME NEWS MEDIA

This bite-size guide will take you through the steps to have your story published in Korean game news publications.

Step 1: Capture their interest.

If you've already read our article on the Korean e-commerce landscape, you'll know that Naver is a dominant search engine in South Korea. Most members of the press use Naver or work emails. If you attach a large media pack, chances are your email will never be delivered. Keep your media pack ready but hold off on sending it until they request the full package. You can then send it via Dropbox or WeTransfer (Dropbox is preferred). In your introductory email, discuss your game release or update, accompanied by captivating images, GIFs, or screenshots of gameplay. If you manage to intrigue them, you're well on your way to getting your story published.

Step 2: Show your commitment.

By the time your media pack is ready, timing becomes absolutely everything. Most publications plan their stories weeks in advance, but there are often last-minute spaces you can target. Ensure your media pack is fully localised and includes high-resolution images. Depending on the stage of your game development, you may want to provide a few keys to help with content planning. In that case, reach out directly to Korean game editors specialising in your game genre to save time. Emails sent to the generic press desk often get lost, which is why working with a local PR agency can be helpful in collaborating directly with game reviewers and writers.

Step 3: Exposure versus Sales.

When working with newspapers, particularly for review features, you'll receive significant exposure. However, they may not include direct URLs to drive sales. When they agree to feature a special story reviewing your game, ensure they have the freedom to express their genuine thoughts about it. If you dictate or request too many specific mentions, they may not proceed with your story. The key here is to establish long-term relationships with trustworthy journalists. Smaller publications may be more flexible with your requests and might even agree to include a URL linking to your site.
